In March 2017 Professor Tom Groome of Boston University and Peter Knapen, Education Delegate for the Flemish Province led a seminar for teachers of religious education in Jesuit schools.
Christian faith in Ireland can no longer be taken for granted in parents, students or even in the teachers. In a secular, multi-cultural society, we cannot expect our beliefs and morals to be endorsed as the norm. It becomes quite a task for schools and religious educators to catechise our children ‘into’ the Catholic, Jesuit tradition.
Thomas Groome is a renowned expert on Religious Education and Theology from Boston College, USA. He has developed a process for RE teachers that works; a method where students learn how to “bring their lives to their faith and their faith to their lives”.
Peter Knapen, Education Delegate for the Flemish Province offers his experience of working in a secular, post-Christian European setting and presents some interesting and relevant perspectives for the Irish context.
Brian Flannery, Education Delegate for the Irish Province introduces the seminar.
Below are videos of the main seminar events of that day.
