In October 2017 Education Delegates from the six Jesuit regions of the world met in Rio de Janeiro to discern what it meant in practical terms ‘to act as a universal body with a universal mission’. This was the phrase used by the Jesuits at the last General Congregation (GC35) to describe their new awareness of having to work as a global network of provinces.
This meeting of Education Delegates in Rio was an historic occasion for two reasons. It was the first time that delegates from every region of the world physically gathered in one place; it was also the first time that provinces worldwide signed up for a shared set of educational priorities and a common agenda of work. This Action Statement will guide apostolic planning for the next five years (2018-2022).
The intention is to devise resources associated with each of these ‘action points’ – 13 in all. These resources are intended to spark creativity and to help delegates and schools implement the commitment in a way that is appropriate to their particular context. The attached resource material is associated with the first action point – The promotion of the Examen of Consciousness. This is an exercise designed to help students listen to their inner voice and learn the path of interiority.
